How long will the effects of Doxidyl® last?
1 dose will control pain and inflammation for 24 hours.
Can Doxidyl® be crushed/broken and given with food?
We do not recommend crushing the tablets. Dosing accuracy is best achieved if the tablet is broken using the score mark. Since Doxidyl® is palatable, it is possible that other animals in the house could consume the fragments of the tablets, which could be toxic (especially to cats).
Should Doxidyl® be given with or without food?
Giving it with food facilitates better bioavailability, but it can be given without food.
Can Doxidyl® be placed in food (for example, placed in with wet food for dinner?)
It is not recommend. When medication is placed in food, the dog might not eat the correct dosage or a second pet may inadvertently consume the medication.
Are the tablets scored so they can be broken in half?
Yes, they are scored and can be broken in half.
Does Doxidyl® contain animal or vegetable proteins? Can it be used in dogs with allergies?
The product contains hydrolyzed vegetable protein, natural flavor and hydrogenated vegetable oils. There is no animal protein in the product, but this is also not considered a hypoallergenic product.
Can deracoxib be administered twice per day?
Deracoxib is labeled for use as a single daily dose.
Can Doxidyl® be given to puppies?
There are no studies to support the use of deracoxib in puppies less than 4 months of age.
Can Doxidyl® be given along with my dog’s other medications, e.g., heartworm preventives?
Yes, EXCEPT another NSAID or a corticosteroid. Please consult your veterinarian if you have further questions.
Can Doxidyl® be given before surgery?
For dental surgery, the first dose can be given 1 hour prior to surgery. See package insert for more details, and consult your veterinarian.
Will Doxidyl® cause liver toxicity or renal disease?
Like any NSAID, it can cause renal and/or hepatic dysfunction. See the package insert for details on how many dogs experienced side effects while on deracoxib, and consult your veterinarian if you have concerns.
Do you have any palatability information (do dogs like the taste)?
We formulated the product using the same flavoring the pioneer brand uses.
